So, today I shot my first ever self portrait. Not perfect, but it will do for now.

When I first started getting into photography I had no idea how much of my life would be devoted to learning more about this craft. I will never know it all. I’ll be in the nursing home with a camera strapped to my walker reading up on the latest improvements in photography and editing. Hopefully, Jodi Friedman of MCP Actions will still be supplying me with this kind of information. Countless hours go to editing photo sessions and Jodi just keeps making it easier and easier. Autoloader is a new program that could shave hours off of my editing time! I’m so glad she featured it in her blog!
Jodi also puts together some AMAZING actions. They have literally become part of my daily workflow when editing. I love her “Eye Doctor” action to sharpen eyes and her “Touch of Lightness” and “Touch of Darkness”. If you are a photographer and need a quick something to punch up your photos check out her actions here (be sure to click on “Try Me” to download her free actions. Thanks to Jodi for sharing so much valuable information!

Thought some of you might enjoy a video that a friend and fellow photog sent out today. Jason Morrison, otherwise know to me as “Dubtastic” posted this video he created today to Facebook. Jason is a fantastic photographer and all around great guy. He has been active in photography for about 5 years, mixing in his background and professional experience as a graphic designer. His post production skills are I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E. I was lucky to meet Jason at a South Atlanta Flickr meeting at Nash Farm Battlefield earlier this year. The video and shoot was all done in and around Studio 42 in Locust Grove, Georgia. I can’t recommend this studio enough. I was out there last weekend for a shoot and had a great experience. I love having a studio that you can shoot in and then walk outside to some other interesting locations! Enjoy the movie!

Pardon me for a moment and allow me to completely dork out…….I’m getting ready to go to Zack Arias’s mixer tonight in preparation for the One Light Workshop that starts tomorrow morning. I have been bouncing around ALL WEEK in anticipation. For those of you that are not aware of Zack’s work….shame on you. Zack is an internationally known photographer based out of Atlanta that specializes it music photography and is a LIGHTING GURU. In photography, lighting is…..well…..EVERYTHING. This workshop is a hands on nuts and bolts type of workshop that in Zack’s words, “breaks lighting down into something we can understand and know how to use in practical day to day shooting.” I can’t wait!
I’d like to make a send a special “shout out” to my friend Andy for allowing me to borrow his camera for tomorrow…..my Canon is getting a tune up and was not back in time to take to the workshop. You can check out Andy’s work at his website here. Seriously….words cannot even describe how thankful I am!
I’ll have plenty of pictures to post after the workshop, but for now I’ll just leave you with a picture of the cutest dog in the world…..in the middle of his afternoon nap….

One year of wedded bliss is upon us. June 21, 2008 in Cashiers, North Carolina we were scurrying around tieing up last minute items and greeting out of towns guests, friends, and family. Hair was horrifically styled (which should never be discussed again : )), undone, and redone. I stepped into my dress, Rob into his suite, and went to meet with Parker (insanely talented photographer and a big inspiration to start taking my photography seriously) at the bridge. Only problem was…..there were two bridges in the area…..I was at one……Rob went to the other. Thanks to my older brother that clued him in and sent him to the right bridge! Below are the pictures that Parker took before the wedding. Let me repeat…..none of these are photos I took, but if you are looking for the nicest, most incredible, fabulous photographer give Parker a call. He won’t let you down. And as for my husband, well….he’s taken…and I’ll fight you for him!

How sweet is Rob? : ) I’m such a lucky girl…..

While passing by a garden on the way to our first photo destination, we had to stop and give our bride/groom version of “American Gothic”

We were lucky enough to have some of the most beautiful natural settings to photograph in…..the mountains up in North Carolina just really find a relaxing, calming, place deep in my soul. Rob and I both love it up there!

Nothin’ like swinging on a tree swing by a lake in your wedding dress to calm those preceremony jitters! After we took some photos it was back to the house for the ceremony. Buchanan Chimney Garden, just adjacent to our family home in Cashiers, NC was the site of the ceremony. It cold not have been more gorgeous.

Of course, the dogs were the ring bearers. They did a fabulous job….meet Frei (the little guy) and Charlie Brown.

Rob’s mom and Dad……his mother smiled like this throughout the entire ceremony! So cute!

Escape by golf cart!

Weddings are intense and frought with little details that can go wrong throughout the day (ie. your wedding coordinator collecting her check the day before the wedding and then not showing up for your wedding day without explanation). We certainly had our share of mishaps. That being said, the day ended with two people, in love, exchanging vows, and getting married. Rob is the most wonderful man I could ever hope to have in my life. He is my calming force, my rock, my kitchen McGyver, my pack mule, my concert buddy, scrim bitch (inside joke), my sweet sappy movie watching friend, and the love of my life. Happy Anniversary honey. I’d marry you all over again today.
Many thanks again to Parker J for all of the wonderful images from our wedding. Please check out his fine art photography here.

Over the last several months I’ve been seeing incredible pictures from Sloss Furnace in Birmingham, Alabama. I really wanted to find a good excuse to get there and capture some of my own images. In 1881 and 1882, North Alabama planter and investor James Withers Sloss built the furnaces which became known as the “City Furnaces.” Extensively rebuilt and modernized in the late 1920s, the current steel-jacketed furnaces employed an estimated 500 workers and produced 400 tons of pig iron daily. Sloss-Sheffield Steel and Iron Company and U. S. Pipe operated these furnaces, maintaining their position as a leading foundry iron producer until 1971. In the early 1980’s Sloss was established as a national historic landmark. It truly is one of the most amazing places I’ve been to recently.
Two things that I feel can connect people from entirely different walks of like is music and photography. There is nothing like looking over a crowd at a live show and seeing all ages, types, shapes, sizes, and color of people…. and seeing a beaming smile on everyone’s faces as they dance to their favorite tunes sung by their favorite band. One of our favorite groups played at Sloss Furnace this past weekend. They are a rapidly rising bluegrass/punk (?) bank out of Concord, NC and are sure to be in everyone’s iPod soon…..Here are a few pics from the show and Sloss Furnace!
**UPDATE** Yeah! Someone from The Hampton Inn has contacted me wanting to use some of these photos in their signage for a new hotel opening soon in Birmingham, AL! I’ll keep you posted…..

I wonder which brother is better
Which one our parents love the most
I sure did get in lots of trouble
They seemed to let the other go
Make sure my sister knows I loved her
My sure my parents know the same
Always remember there is nothing worth sharing like the love that let us share our name

This past Saturday I hung out with my friend Deb at the train tracks that are adjacent to her home in Cobb County. Deb had arranged for Aglae (we met her through the Atlanta Photography Guild) to model for us while we played camera. Aglae is one of those strikingly beautiful women that have no idea just how gorgeous they are……she’s such a sweetheart and will be missed. Aglae is moving to California (today actually) to pursue her education. Good luck Aglae!
