I honestly don’t even know where to start…. I’ve never been so giddy to get up at 6:00am and work for 13 straight hours IN MY LIFE.  I’ve had the most amazing last two days schlepping gear, adjusting lights, exploring down dark and dusty spider web infested hallways, watching, and learning from someone I consider one of the best in the business.   Thanks so much to Zack Arias, Meghan Arias, and Used Film for including me in this shoot and for being the generous, humble, well natured people you are.   You also happen to be a heck of a lot of fun to hang out with.

For you photography lovers out there……you are just going to DIE when you see his images from the last few days!  Congratulations to Zack for taking some “personal time” and keeping the creativity alive.

P.S.- I know……this is the first EVER post without a picture, but this was all about Zack’s vision….keep an eye on his blog and you are bound to see some images pop up over the course of the next several months.

P.S.S.- Thank you to the creators of Diet Coke for providing enough caffeine to keep me going throughout the last couple of days as well……I think I have a 12 pack per day habit now.

About a month or so ago I met fellow photographer Steven Skelton at a mixer at Zack Arias‘s studio.  Since meeting we have kept in touch, chatted on Facebook, followed each other’s work, and now have had the chance to shoot together!  Steven put together a strobist group in Athens, Georgia (Go Dawgs) and they had their first meeting at the Oneta Building on the outskirts of town.  Strobist style shooting just basically means shooting with off camera flash and can give you some really cool effects.  Most of these shots were done with my 580EXII flash and a 60 inch umbrella to soften the light.

Thanks so much to my dear friend Renee for joining us as a model……she was a total trooper.  She’s probably feeling like she has whiplash from a car crash after we made her flip her hair over about 15 times to get this shot…….

For those of you that have been reading for a while you know of my deep respect for Zack Arias….not just as a photographer, but as a person.  He really gets it.  He and his wife Meghan create a team that is a force to be reckoned with.  Family comes first.  Helping others is paramount.  Inspiring us to believe in ourselves when we have lost faith.  I just love this guy and all he stands for regardless of where his camera may be. The video clip below is from Zack’s most recent blog post which can be found here.

The OneLight workshop was incredible.  Zack Arias’s approachable down to earth attitude was really refreshing. The philosophy behind the workshop is simple.  Learn all you can do with just one light, the use of some different modifiers, and full manual settings and master it.  Zack goes through all of his modifiers, lighting equipment, and techniques in a very hands on manner with a small group (there were 12 people in our workshop) until all of your questions are answered…….seriously…….we were there until 3am.  This workshop was money well spent for me.  I would highly recommend his workshops to any intermediate level photographers out there, but you better sign up early…….all of his workshops are selling out.  Enjoy the pics!

Pardon me for a moment and allow me to completely dork out…….I’m getting ready to go to Zack Arias’s mixer tonight in preparation for the One Light Workshop that starts tomorrow morning.  I have been bouncing around ALL WEEK in anticipation.  For those of you that are not aware of Zack’s work….shame on you.  Zack is an internationally known photographer based out of Atlanta that specializes it music photography and is a LIGHTING GURU.  In photography, lighting is…..well…..EVERYTHING.  This workshop is a hands on nuts and bolts type of workshop that in Zack’s words, “breaks lighting down into something we can understand and know how to use in practical day to day shooting.”  I can’t wait!

I’d like to make a send a special “shout out” to my friend Andy for allowing me to borrow his camera for tomorrow…..my Canon is getting a tune up and was not back in time to take to the workshop.  You can check out Andy’s work at his website here.  Seriously….words cannot even describe how thankful I am!

I’ll have plenty of pictures to post after the workshop, but for now I’ll just leave you with a picture of the cutest dog in the world…..in the middle of his afternoon nap….
