The concept is simple. Help others. Commit a selfless act. Get involved in your community. Give back. This world wide movement was started by the ridiculously talented Jeremy Cowart and has spread like WILDFIRE! Apparently, there are a LOT of you that want to give back to your community by participating. Groups all over the world are organizing to provide free portraits at their community centers, parks, school, etc. on December 12th, 2009 to families that are less fortunate.
I’m a member of the Atlanta based planning committee and site leader for the Midtown Atlanta location. We have partnered with Families First and already have 3 different locations in metro Atlanta, so we have lots of volunteer opportunities! If you are a photographer (beginner or professional) in the Atlanta Metro area and would like to be involved in this project locally you can sign up here. If you are not based in Atlanta, but would like to find out more information go to the main Help Portrait website here or follow the action on Twitter here.
Take a peek at the video below that got this all started!

I’ve been having a dee-light-ful relaxing weekend with my family up in Cashiers, NC. This place is heaven. It’s been in the mid 70’s during the day….sunny…..a gentle breeze rustling through the trees….it seriously doesn’t get much better than this. It’s been raining a lot here lately and there are mushrooms EVERYWHERE! Mushrooms of all colors shapes and sizes are everywhere you turn.
My mother and I rode our golf cart to the top of the mountain today to go “shroom hunting” and here are a few of the things we found along the way.

And finally…….the Arnold Schwarzenegger of mushrooms…..

I have so much fun shooting with this group. For those of you in the Atlanta area it is well worth the drive to shoot with the South Atlanta Flickr group. For those of you that have been reading for a while you know of my deep respect for Zack Arias….not just as a photographer, but as a person. He really gets it. He and his wife Meghan create a team that is a force to be reckoned with. Family comes first. Helping others is paramount. Inspiring us to believe in ourselves when we have lost faith. I just love this guy and all he stands for regardless of where his camera may be. The video clip below is from Zack’s most recent blog post which can be found here.

I am a music freak…..always have been….always will be. My husband (Rob), however, takes being a music freak to new heights. If he won the lottery I think he would travel the world to see all of his favorite musicians across the continents. One of our favorite places to browse for tunes is Criminal Records in Little Five Points just up the street from us. They send out an email newsletter that Rob reads religiously. He’s always entering contests to win tickets from Criminal Records….and he wins them….A LOT! A few months ago, I swear, there was like an 8 week stretch that our friend Lillian at Criminal Records was calling every Friday to tell Rob he had won yet another pair of tickets for a show.
Last Friday we got another call from Lillian and had won tickets to Eddie’s Attic. Now, if you are a music fan, and have not been to Eddie’s then….well….you really aren’t a music fan. Eddie’s has launched the careers of countless musicians….John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Sugarland, etc. The likes of Indigo Girls, John Gorka, Sheryl Crow, Ani DiFranco, Brandi Carlile, The Black Crowes, Al Stewart, David Wilcox, Bill Mallonee, Kevn Kenny, Edwin McCain, Richard Shindell, Ellis Paul, Francine Reed, Patty Larkin, Malcomb Holcombe, Larry Jon Wilson, Eric Taylor, Glen Phillips, Dana Cooper, Billy Joe Shaver, Pierce Pettis, Kate Campbell, Cheryl Wheeler, Cliff Eberhardt, Vance Gilbert, Lowen & Navarro, India.Arie, Brian Vander Ark and Don Conoscenti have all played in Eddie’s quaint “listening room”. Eddie’s is designed around the concept of actually coming to a concert to listen to the music……you will be publicly humiliated and scorned (well, not really) if you talk loudly or your cell phone rings during a live show here. At Eddie’s you live by the mantra “Live Music Matters”. I couldn’t agree more.
Anyhoo- So I’m at this concert last Friday night at Eddie’s enjoying my second glass of wine when my friend Andy walks in with the headliner, Sarah Peacock. Sarah was notably bummed that the photograher that was supposed to be there to document their show at Eddie’s had not yet shown up. Andy happened to hear her talking with someone outside about the situation and offered up my photographic services. Seriously, I don’t know why I ever leave home without my camera. I always find myself missing it when it’s not with me. Sarah came in to explain the situation and a few minutes later my good buddy Renee was driving me home to pick up my camera and voila…..the images below were taken! Sarah is on tour now, so be sure to check out her schedule here. She has a stellar voice and a great raw earthy sound.
I’d also like to give a little shout out to The Duke and The King that opened for Sarah. I don’t have any pics of them from the show, but they were incredible. Can you say beautiful harmony? Rob bought their CD and hasn’t stopped listening to it all week!
Have a great weekend everyone!

When I first started getting into photography I had no idea how much of my life would be devoted to learning more about this craft. I will never know it all. I’ll be in the nursing home with a camera strapped to my walker reading up on the latest improvements in photography and editing. Hopefully, Jodi Friedman of MCP Actions will still be supplying me with this kind of information. Countless hours go to editing photo sessions and Jodi just keeps making it easier and easier. Autoloader is a new program that could shave hours off of my editing time! I’m so glad she featured it in her blog!
Jodi also puts together some AMAZING actions. They have literally become part of my daily workflow when editing. I love her “Eye Doctor” action to sharpen eyes and her “Touch of Lightness” and “Touch of Darkness”. If you are a photographer and need a quick something to punch up your photos check out her actions here (be sure to click on “Try Me” to download her free actions. Thanks to Jodi for sharing so much valuable information!

Thought some of you might enjoy a video that a friend and fellow photog sent out today. Jason Morrison, otherwise know to me as “Dubtastic” posted this video he created today to Facebook. Jason is a fantastic photographer and all around great guy. He has been active in photography for about 5 years, mixing in his background and professional experience as a graphic designer. His post production skills are I-N-C-R-E-D-I-B-L-E. I was lucky to meet Jason at a South Atlanta Flickr meeting at Nash Farm Battlefield earlier this year. The video and shoot was all done in and around Studio 42 in Locust Grove, Georgia. I can’t recommend this studio enough. I was out there last weekend for a shoot and had a great experience. I love having a studio that you can shoot in and then walk outside to some other interesting locations! Enjoy the movie!

Could this kid BE ANY CUTER??? Yesterday I went to take some pictures of my friend’s 6 month old boy Cade. He was an absolute trooper through the entire session. I’ve just started editing, but wanted to send you a sneak peek! More to come soon!
